Dried flowers at Lichen-Z-Farm Hydroponic Basil and Lavender Farm
Although we dry and preserve many different kinds of flowers (to include our hydroponic flowers), the only dried flowers we currently sell in "bunches" is our ammobium. The rest of our dried flowers are used to make our wonderful specialty items and gift baskets.
Interesting facts about Ammobium
Commonly named "Winged Everlasting", Ammobium is a perennial flower native to Eastern Australia, and is the only member of the genus Ammobium. The flowers are small and have white petals with a yellow centre, they can be dried. The stems are grey with an unusual external ribbing. In Australia, Ammobium is an important source of food for painted lady caterpillars.
More information about Ammobium
Ammobium has tiny (thumbnail size), daisy-shaped, bright white flowers with a golden-yellow center. The blooms are on winged stems 12 to 16 inches (30-40cm) long and give a delicate look to floral arrangements. The name Ammobium comes from the Greek "ammos" (sand) and "bio" (to live). These plants are native to Eastern Australia and grow in sandy soil. The popular name Winged Everlasting is derived from the peculiar winged formation on the branches. The "alatum" part of the Latin means "winged" and refers to the thin ridges or "wings" on the stems. And "everlasting" comes from the ability to use them as dried flowers.
